Behavior Paraprofessional



Reports To: Special Education Director, Campus Administration, and Behavior Specialist.
Pay Grade: See Holland ISD compensation plan “Paraprofessionals-Instructional Positions”
Work Days:  187 days

Primary Purpose: To assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans and provide direct support to students with behavioral, emotional, or social needs. The Behavior Paraprofessional works under the supervision of certified staff to promote positive behavior, support instructional goals, and ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate (or ability to obtain)
  • Some college coursework or specialized training in behavior management, psychology, or special education preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies and data collection procedures
  • Ability to work effectively with students exhibiting challenging behaviors
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in crisis situations
    Ability to follow verbal and written directions and work as part of a collaborative team
Experience:
  • Experience working with students with disabilities or behavioral needs preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Student Support
  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as designed by the behavior specialist or ARD/IEP team.
  • Provide direct support to students exhibiting behavioral or emotional challenges in classroom, campus, or specialized settings.
  • Assist in teaching replacement behaviors and social skills through structured interventions.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors using approved strategies and systems.
  • Support students in transitioning between settings and routines throughout the school day.
Data and Documentation:
  • Collect and record behavioral data as directed by supervising staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information and records.
  • Assist in monitoring and documenting student progress toward behavioral goals.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, LSSPs, and administrators to support student success.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and consultations related to behavior support and crisis prevention.
  • Communicate effectively with supervising staff about student progress and behavioral concerns.
Safety and Supervision:
  • Follow district and campus safety procedures, including de-escalation and crisis intervention protocols.
  • Supervise students in a variety of settings (classroom, cafeteria, playground, transportation, etc.) as assigned.
  • Support implementation of district-approved crisis management systems (e.g., CPI,SAMA).
Other
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the behavior specialist or campus administrator to support student and campus needs.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions; handle difficult student behaviors.
Physical Demands
Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and carrying up to 30 pounds; possible physical intervention in accordance with district policy and training.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with district policies on paraprofessional staff evaluations.
